La musica de Linkin Park es una mezcla de Rap, heavy, rock y musica techno.Las personalidades de los dos lideres son muy diferentes, asi como sus gustos musicales.Lejos de crear ruido inescuchable y de baja calidad (que es lo que suele suceder en estas circunstancias) los Linkin Park han conseguido crear un Hybird Theory grandioso, un primer CD que causó toda una sensación. Él fue al instituto de Agoura donde conoció a Brad Delson (guitarrista) y a Rob Burdon (bateria).Mike fue a la universidad de arte de Pasadena, en ese lugar estudió dibujo. Mike se graduó de la universidad y despues, tuvo su primera experiencia en un concierto, Mike quería ser músico. Mike conocio a Joe Hawn en la universidad. Mike, Brad, Rob, Joe, Mark (amigo de ellos) y Phoenix, comenzaron la banda llamandose "Xero". Cuando Mark se fue de la banda y Phoenix se fue de gira con otra banda (Snax), entonces Mike "reclutó" a Chester Bennington, en Phoenix, Arizona. Cambiaron su nombre a "Hybrid Theory" y Chester se incorporó a la banda. Entonces, tubieron una disputa de derechos legales y cambiaron su nombre a LINKIN PARK, entonces fueron a hacer un show con 6 trabajos grabados, Mike tubo que hacer sus 8 ultimos trimestres en la universidad de Pasadena. La banda se formó en 1996 por Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon, Joe Hann y Phoenix, al principio con el nombre de Hybrid Theory. Mas tarde Phoenix abandonó la banda y se fue de gira con otro grupo llamado Snax, y con su salida se unió el vocalista Chester Bennington.Después de un tiempo cambiaron el nombre de la banda por el de Linkin Park. Este nuevo nombre se debía a una variación de Lincoln Park, que fue cambiado por problemas legales.Así todo estaba preparado para empezar, y en su primera actuación en un club de los Ángeles impactaron al público. Y rápidamente obtuvieron un contrato discográfico con el sello de Warner Brothers Records, en la que Don Gilmore produjo su primer álbum. A fines de marzo apareció su nuevo disco, Meteora. Somewhere I Belong es el primer tema que se lanza al mercado de Meteora, un álbum muy esperado que es la continuación del multi-platino Hybrid Theory. La salida del disco coincidirá con una breve gira por Europa, luego de la cual Linkin Park regresará a Estados Unidos para iniciar el Projeckt Revolution Tour 2003.En la producción de Meteora estuvieron el rapero de la banda, Mike Shinoda, y el ingeniero Don Gilmore, quien ya trabajó en el multimillonario Hybrid Theory. Ambos han adelantado que la dirección musical de este álbum es más pesada, sin que esto haya significado sacrificar el filo melódico de Linkin Park. Existe confusión alrededor del número de integrantes del grupo, ya que algunas fuentes afirman que Linkin Park tiene cinco integrantes y otras que seis. Lo que sucede es que Phoenix dejó al grupo temporalmente, precisamente durante la grabación de su disco debut. Pero después de un año se reintegró para volver a formar el sexteto. El disco "Live in Texas" fue grabado en agosto del 2004,en vivo. Contiene un CD con 12 temas en vivo, más un DVD con 17 canciones, también en vivo, en el Sanitarium Tour de Texas, que los californianos compartieron con Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Mudvayne y Metallica.
